Street fashion reigns supreme on the third day of SFW. Here are our picks from the many edgy yet wearable collections which took the runway…

The third day of Seoul Fashion Week was all about the P’s: Peace, prints, performances and planes. But despite the different inspirations and styles, the majority of the collections boasted one thing: creative wearability.

Edgy or quirky  – here are the collections we loved the most.

J Koo

Peace was a running theme at the J Koo show and while at first the show opened with dark, all-black and heavy ensembles – it gradually lightened up with splashes of neons and lighter pieces. We loved the tailored jacket and mini skirt combos in black and grey which despite looking like they came straight from post WW2, had a modern edge about them. Cotton candy pink separates,quilted jackets, asymmetrical mini skirts and clutches inscribed with the word ‘Peace’ completed this well-rounded collection which managed to combine chic and laid back pieces to please everyone.

S=YZ

Before the S=YZ show began,two artists – a male and a female – treated us to an art performance as they painted consecutively a man and a women’s face on each side of the runway. The images they illustrated turned out to be the basic print which the designers used throughout the collection to symbolize ‘interactive communication between a man and a woman.’

Digital prints and embroidery were key features in almost all pieces but what stood out the most are those croc-embossed leather skirts and crop tops which would look right at home on someone like Rihanna. We loved the variety of fun elements especially the flirty and feminine silhouettes which ranged from pencil to full organza and leather skirts with a peekaboo somewhere whenever possible.

Young and versatile, this is one collection we’ll be looking out for next winter!

CRES. E DIM

Merging minimal aesthetics with prints is not an easy thing to do – yet the designer Kim Hongbum of this up and coming label managed to master it well. The seemingly tech-inspired collection had some great jackets and skirts in interesting cuts which took geometrics shapes in materials such as wool and leather. The printed pieces were scarce and subtle as if used to complement the sombre mood of the collection rather than overwhelm them. They came either as a upside down city scape on oversized sweaters or on knee-length white socks which added such a cool touch to the show in general.

Jarret

Digital prints were also present at Jarret’s FW14 show, and here they were much more prominent. There was a lot of play on proportions when it came to the collection in whole, from sizing the prints to balancing the tops and bottoms. We especially loved those printed leggings when teamed with oversized coats and jackets creating an edgy contrast. again the colour palette was mainly monochrome just as you’d expect from Korean designers for Fall/Winter.

Andy and Debb

As we took our seats at this popular show, a life-size image of a plane was projected on the wall announcing the arrival of ‘Fly Me’ collection. Fun and playful, the models strutted down the runway in aviation-inspired outfits which ranged from muted and understated to daring and colourful. A bright pink knitted sweater with ‘Fly Me’ written on the font was teamed with a maxi printed skirt was certainly one of the highlights of the show. We also loved the printed coats which had a very kitschy feel.

CJ show

For CJ show this year, 3 designers were picked from the CFDK (Council of Fashion Designers of Korea) – namely J. JS LEE, KYE and YUNA YANG.

We are no strangers to J. JS Lee’s immaculate designs – as prior to showing at Seoul, we managed to catch her show last year during London Fashion Week. Needless to say, her collection was flawless and played on minimal aesthetics to perfection.

Same goes for KYE and YUNA YANG who showed great skill in making heavy winter wear look and feel so light and airy. The show was a perfect way to end this jam-packed day of great Korean fashion.
