You heard it from us first. Prague is a food heaven that nobody knows about yet!

Europe has always been a popular holiday destination, and relatively less well-known countries such as Croatia, Slovenia, and Hungary are becoming increasingly popular with adventurous travellers seeking out new experiences. The Czech Republic, with its capital in Prague, is another European country that more people are visiting.

Prague itself has much to see and do, and is best known for attractions like the Charles Bridge, Old Town Square, and astronomical clock. Fans of architecture will relish the Gothic castles and cathedrals, while history buffs can explore the Jewish quarter. Art and literature lovers will not be left out either, as the Czech Republic has produced famous personalities such as Alfonse Mucha and Franz Kafka.

However, when it comes to food, many people draw a blank. The impression that most tourists have of Czech cuisine can be summarised succinctly in two words – beer and meat. There’s also the danger of tourist traps, which promise authentic food but literally leave a bad taste in the mouth. In reality, Prague is home to amazing aromas and flavours. The best of traditional Czech food has a comforting, home-style quality, which can be sampled in dishes such as svíčková, which is made up of braised beef slices in cream sauce with cranberries and houskové knedlíky (Czech bread dumplings). At the same time, modern dining concepts are also emerging, with updated versions of chlebicek – classic Czech open-faced sandwiches, English-inspired pub grub, and Asian fusion plates. With so many cafés and restaurants in Prague, the food scene is certainly flourishing.

From quick tasty eats to authentic Czech cuisine, we’ve put together a list of ten amazing restaurants in Prague, the foodie capital no one knows about – yet. You’ll thank us later.
