Ah Asian eyes. The difficulties of putting on eyeshadow, eyeliner and creating ultra smoky lids are no strangers to us.

Asian eyes are typically categorised into hooded lids, monolids or almond eyes. We do not have deep double eyelids like the Caucasians do, thus we don’t have enough lid real estate to do up fanciful looks with tons of dimensions.

So what’s an Asian girl to do? We show you some tried and tested tips on doing your eye makeup and mastering it in no time.

FIND YOUR CREASE

Even monolids have their crease – you just need to find it. Using a flat eyeshadow brush, prod your lids gently until you find a part that sinks in more than the rest. Voila, you’ve found your crease. This is where the darker ‘crease’ colour would go inside. Adjust the amount according to the amount of space you have.

WINGED LINER IS YOUR BEST FRIEND

Make use of your limited lid space to go big on the eyeliners. You can stick to a classic black wing-tipped liner paired with red lips or you can go the Korean route with colourful eyeliner and ombre lips.

WHITE EYELINER

Befriend your white eyeliner. Highlighting your waterline can open up your eyes so much more and give you a wide-awake look.

DON’T SKIP MASCARA

With stubborn lashes that point downwards, you might be tempted to skip the mascara. Don’t. Making the extra effort to heat your lash curler with a hair dryer and crimping your lashes a little will help the curl stay. Try to opt for Asian brands of mascara as the formulas are lighter and won’t weigh your lashes down.

DOUBLE EYELID PUTTY

If you really want to create that crease, try using double eyelid glue or tape to draw the lid out. If you do it often enough your lids might form the line naturally after, if you are lucky that is.
