We give you the secrets from celebrity makeup artist Bobbi Brown on how you can maintain your makeup for longer.

We have all been in situations where our makeup has faded away faster than it should have. With a humid climate like Singapore’s, makeup products tend to wear off faster if not used with a long lasting base or set with either powder or a makeup setting spray. When it comes to prolonging the wear of your makeup, celebrity makeup artist Bobbi Brown suggests the following 5 tips.

TIP # 1: MOISTURIZED BASE

Start off your routine by applying your day cream. Squeeze out a pea sized amount and dot it on the prominent portions of your face such as forehead, cheeks, chin and neck.  Massage it well into your skin avoiding areas such as your eyelids. A day cream may be too thick for your eyelids which has thinner skin. Applying an emollient product will cause products applied on your eyelids to slip, particularly your eyeshadows. Instead, use an eye cream or eye primer with anti-aging properties.  A well moisturized base will help your makeup to adhere longer, making it last.

TIP # 2: USE MAKEUP TOOLS

Instead of using your fingers to apply your base products such as a foundation, use trusty makeup tools such as makeup brushes. For heavier coverage, use a dense makeup brush to apply your liquid or powder foundations. For those who prefer a light dust of power, opt for a kabuki brush.

TIP # 3: SET YOUR MAKEUP

If you are using liquid based products, it is important to set your makeup with a powder product. You can choose to opt for a translucent powder or a powder with a little coverage. Lightly dust the powder on prominent points such as under your eyes, forehead, nose, cheeks and chin. An alternative will be to use a makeup setting spray.

TIP # 4: MIX YOUR BLUSHES

A neutral blush shade tends to wear off more easily. To prolong the wear time of your favourite blush, mix the shade with another blush of a brighter hue. Not only does this intensify the colour pay off but ensures that your blush stays on for longer.

TIP # 5: USE A NUDE LIP LINER

Tired of your lip stick bleeding or fading easily? Start off by priming your lips by applying concealer all over. Next, outline your lips using a nude lip liner and apply your lipstick following that. Blot off any excess lipstick with a ply of tissue and reapply for better colour pay off.
