Wearing dark lipstick can be intimidating but it can also look glamorous when done right. Here’s how you can pull off a dark lipstick to bring out the inner vampy glam in you.

If there is a shade of lipstick most women shy away from, dark colours may just take the crown. While wearing dark lipstick can be intimidating, it can also be empowering as it allows you to step out of your comfort zone. On the other hand, it is also important to note that dark lip shades are not the most forgiving and need to be applied with a tad bit more precision. Here are 5 tips to take note of when rocking the vampy glam look:

TIP #1: APPLY THE LIP SHADE USING A LIP BRUSH

The best way to apply a dark lip shade is with a sturdy lip brush. These shades tend to be messier to apply and can stain your skin. Start off by applying the shade from the outer corner of your mouth and dragging the brush to the center of your lips. Once you are satisfied with the basic shape, fill in the rest of your lips with the colour to your desired intensity.

TIP #2: LINE YOUR LIPS AFTER APPLYING THE SHADE

Bold lip shades should look prominent and stand out. To do, line your lips after applying the lip colour. This gives you a guide to follow. Simply follow the perimeter of the shape you’ve draw and fill in your lips. Blend any harsh lines and blot your lips.

TIP #3: EXFOLIATE YOUR LIPS

Dark lip shades contain pigments which may pick up dry skin flakes much more easily. Use a lip scrub or wet wipe wrapped around your index finger to prep your lips prior to application. This helps the lipstick to adhere for much longer to your lips and goes on much smoother.

TIP #4: KEEP THE REST OF YOUR MAKEUP NEUTRAL

A vampy glam look focuses on your lips as the main attraction. Balance out the dramatic lip look by keeping the rest of your look neutral. Opt for a dewy foundation paired with a pink or peach blush. Finish off with a dash of bronzer and you are ready to rock one of the hottest makeup trends in town.

TIP #5: START OFF LIGHT

If you a newbie to dark lip shades, start off with a pigmented gloss like those from Urban Decay’s line of  Revolution lip glosses. Not only will you get great pigmentation but the application is fuss free and more forgiving.
