Beauty Review: Kat Von D Beauty’s Pastel Goth Eyeshadow Palette

Marie France Asia beauty writer Lim Han tries out Kat Von D’s Pastel Goth Palette and shares her results.

Ride the rainbow wave with Kat Von D Beauty’s Pastel Goth Eyeshadow Palette

When one thinks “goth”, jarring eyeliners, dark shadows and vampy lips are bound to come to mind. Well, Kat Von D has changed all that. Introducing her latest ground-breaking palette for the summer, the Pastel Goth Eyeshadow Palette. Infusing a vibrant twist to the dark punky world of goth, this palette consists of a range of eight matte shadows starring colourful hues. The shadows boast of a long-lasting and highly pigmented formula that will dress your lids in rainbow magic the entire day. With the shadows promising to be blendable and buildable, you can expect to be having the time of your life working with this palette.

Feast your eyes on Star (daffodil yellow), Clementine (peach), Meow (lilac), Dope (lavender), Doom (sky blue), Gloom (meadow green), Dagger (stone grey) and Skull (pure white), all gorgeous shades that every one will fall in love with. And, as with all her other palettes, the gothic design of the “pastel goth” logo is impressively hand-drawn by Kat herself. 100% cruelty-free and of the highest quality, the Pastel Goth Eyeshadow palette is basically begging you to take it home.

Our Verdict

Give me neutrals or soft pinks any day. But, Kat Von D Beauty’s Pastel Goth Eyeshadow Palette? That’s a different story. I was initially apprehensive about trying out this palette because of the sheer vibrancy and colourful shades of the eyeshadows. I had already anticipated the outcome of this palette: my eyes were either going to resemble a unicorn, or a sad attempt of my mother’s retro eyeshadow look in the ’90s. But, I scoured the world of Instagram and came across some really rad looks that people had conjured up with this palette. So, I thought “Why not?” and decided to give it a go.

Clever me decided to try it out on a weekday, which entailed little room for mistakes as I was heading to work afterwards. I couldn’t possibly enter the office looking like a deranged fairy. So, the pressure was on. Luckily, this palette surpassed all my expectations and was a dream to work with. Although the shadows were pigmented, they were very buildable, ensuring that I didn’t get the shock of my life with the first swipe across my lids. I applied ‘Meow’ across my lids and was surprised to see a soft purple hue which leaned towards the pinkish side. I then spontaneously decided on ‘Dope’ for the outer corners of my eyes and thought to myself, “This is it – this is the make-or-break moment.” I swiped my brush onto the outer corners of my lids and – lo and behold – a subdued purple-blue tint lavished my lids, which looked anything but garish. It melded beautifully with ‘Meow’ and almost created an ombre effect. Lastly, I brushed ‘Clementine’ onto my inner corners. Maybe it was due to my skin tone or my fear of over-doing it, but there wasn’t an obvious difference made.

Nevertheless, I was truly impressed by how wearable this palette is. If you had told me last week that this palette would make it into the roundup of products I would use regularly, I would have laughed. But now, this palette is certainly having the last laugh.

If you’re scared off by the colourful hues and vibrancy of the Pastel Goth Eyeshadow Palette, all I can say is “don’t judge a book by its cover” – because its story is absolutely stunning.

Kat Von D Beauty’s Pastel Goth Eyeshadow Palette will be available in all Sephora stores and on sephora.com.sg from 11 May 2017.
