Fashion mogul makes the case for bright orange lips and bespectacled glamour.

The Glamour Women of the Year Awards were held last week at Carnegie Hall in New York City to honour the most hardworking and inspirational women of the year.

J.Crew creative director and president Jenna Lyons was one of the women in attendance at the event, turning up top-to-toe in – you guessed it, J.Crew! Among all the smoky eyes and nude lips, the fashion original stood out in a bright orange lip and large black glasses. This modern mod look definitely urged us to ditch the contacts and wear our glasses out the next day.

To emulate this chic fashion mogul look, it is important to focus on the eyes. Glasses draw attention to your eyes and will accentuate flaws. You don’t want your peepers to look dull and tired, so brighten the undereye area with a light-reflecting concealer.

Define your eyes and make your lashes look voluminous by tight-lining close as possible to the lashline. What makes this makeup look so modern is the little to no eyeshadow on the lids. If you must, define your crease with a soft brown transition shade of your choice. Skip mascara if you have long lashes that’ll be pressed against the lens of your glasses, but it is a must to run them through a lash curler to open up your eyes.

A bright orange lip delivers that knock out punch to your look. As with any bold colour, line your lips to prevent feathering. If you’re not up to a full-blown orange lippie, dip your toes into a bright red with orange undertones like NARS Audacious Lipstick in Annabella.

Brush your brows up and slick back your hair into a ballerina bun and you’ll be ready to go out on the town looking like one modern fashionista.
