Paint the town red with our round up of red lipsticks to rock this holiday season.

When it comes to red lipsticks, it seems that people either love it or hate it. The latter may be due to how intimidating the colour appears for some. However the bright hue is one such shade that has the power to carry off your entire look on its own. Here’s a guide to 3 different ways you can rock a red pout for the upcoming holiday season.

MATTE LIP LOOK

A nice matte lip look paired with shimmery eyes is the perfect way to usher in the holiday season. Not only is this look chic, but using a matte red shade is a long-lasting option for those long nights out. To prolong the wear of your red matte lip shade, start off by exfoliating your lips with either a lip scrub or toothbrush. Exfoliating your lips will help to get rid of any excess dead skin leaving you with a smooth canvas to work with. Then, outline your lips with a matching lip liner and fill in your entire lip with the actual lipstick shade. Finish off by blotting off any excess lip colour and re-apply the lip shade for a stronger colour pay off.

CREAMY RED POUT

If you do not fancy having an all-out matte lip look, opt for a red creamy lip shade. These types of lipsticks tend to be more hydrating and do not pick up dry flakes as much. Although they tend to rub off more, they can be easily re-applied on the go. To pair a creamy red pout, opt for darker shades such as rose gold or maroon. If colours do not interest you, go for a simple but striking winged liner. For the bold at heart, experiment with coloured eyeliners.

OLD HOLLYWOD GLAM

If you would like to channel inspiration from old Hollywood, take a cue from Marilyn Monroe and apply your garnet red lipstick with a lip brush. This will help you to achieve precision. For beginners, rest your pinky finger on your chin to help maneuver the lip brush with ease. To clean up any messy edges, use a concealer brush dipped in the tiniest amount of concealer or foundation and blend away from the lips. Next trace the perimeters of your lips with concealer to finish off. Add a dab of gloss in the centre and you’re ready to go.
