Little Red Love: Sephora releases exclusive fragrance for SG50

Ever wondered what a truly Singaporean scent would smell like? Well now you can spritz in on yourself with the launch of Little Red Love.

For Singapore’s upcoming Golden Jubilee celebration, we’ve seen an onslaught of luggages, bags, jewellery, T-Shirts and watches so what remains is essentially a fragrance that embodies what it smells like to be living in the little red dot.

Aptly titled, Little Red Love, the fragrance will be jointly launched by Sephora and bespoke scent company, Myscentdesign. Though crafted by French perfumer, Alexandre Freile, that’s not to say the scent is any less representative of the island state. After all, Freile did spend 8 years here soaking in every smell imaginable in order to deliver his olfactory journey into one brilliant concoction.

With the national flower, Vanda Miss Joaquim, at the heart of the scent and accompanied by notes of tea, mint and a fluffy rice accord, we can already guess how glorious the fragrance must be, though unusual. In addition to the above, hints of distinctively Asian notes like osmanthus, citrus, plum blossom, sandalwood and cashmere wood are also present.

Elegantly bottled in a minimalist clear glass flacon, you will find the sketch of a female adorned in the country’s colours, red and white, as well as the five stars and crescent moon – reflective of the Singapore flag.

“This perfume expresses 8 years of emotions; joy and happiness. The streets of Singapore have been my laboratory. Singapore has a purity and an intensity no word can describe. In this creation I strived for encapsulating its unique blend of cultures, harmony of traditions, and mix of smells, as a gift to a country that has so warmly welcomed me,” said Alexandre Freile.

Honestly, as long as it doesn’t smell of durians, we bet the scent would remind us of home in just an instant. Perfect for when we’re feeling homesick.

Little Red Love will be retailing at Sephora stores from 23 July at SGD88. SGD1 from each sale will also be donated to a women’s association in Singapore.
