Soo Joo Park: 5 Things you didn’t know about the new face of L’Oreal Paris

updated the 14 July 2015 à 18:31

She’s blonde, she’s beautiful and she’s the cosmetic giant’s first Asian spokesperson. Get to know the face behind the name.

It’s safe to say supermodel Soo Joo Park woke up to the best birthday present a girl could ask for: being announced as the new spokesperson for L’Oreal Paris. The platinum blonde joins the stellar line up of Karlie Kloss, Lara Stone, Barbara Palvin and Doutzen Kroes in representing the famed cosmetic giant. This milestone is particularly noteworthy because Soo Joo goes down in history as the first Asian spokesperson in the brand’s 106-year-old history.

“L’Oréal Paris represents everything I want to stand for, by inspiring and empowering women to be the best versions of themselves. This brand has revolutionized the way women feel by showing them ‘you deserve the absolute best of everything’, I couldn’t agree more with this, that’s why it is a real honor for me to become a L’Oréal Paris’ spokesperson.” stated Soo-Joo.

While she may not be as well known as the current crop of models ruling the runway, Soo Joo is nonetheless a force to be reckoned with. The  29 year-old is already the face of Redken, has walked the runways for Chanel and Moschino and graced the front covers of Vogue, Numero and Wonderland. You know what they say, go big or go home and it looks like Soo Joo is about to blow up real big in the modelling world.

Before she does, here are some interesting facts you might want to know about the up and coming model.

1. Discovered while vintage shopping

Unlike most models who enter the modelling world in their lanky teen years, Soo Joo was a university graduate with a full time graphic design job at a start-up web company before she made it big. She was shopping in a vintage store when a talent scout asked if she was interested in modeling. Soo Joo thought why not, and the rest, as they say, is history.

2. Supported by Carine Roitfeld

While shooting for Carine Roitfeld’s namesake publication CR Fashion Book, Soo Joo caught the eye of the fashion guru herself. There’s no telling the amount of doors that opened when the former Editor in Chief of Vogue Paris takes you under her wing. Through Carine, Soo Joo got an introduction to the big names like Karl Lagerfeld and Tom Ford. It can’t be denied that her booking gigs have increased since then.

3. She googles herself

The Korean-born beauty admits to typing in her name on the search engine and reading some of the stuff people write about her for entertainment purposes. We’re pretty sure almost everyone has done this at some point though.

4. Is constantly compared to the late Daul Kim

While the model looked up to her fellow compatriot, she doesn’t think they have anything in common other than their nationality and bleached hair and that people should “get over the need to compare everyone to someone famous before them.”

5. Participates in ‘hard-core lounging’ during her spare time

When not walking the runways or gracing the cover of magazines, Soo Joo loves to sit in bed in her pajamas, have movie marathons and eat comfort food – hard-core lounging as she calls it.
