Fond of horse racing or not – here’s why you should be excited about China Equine Cultural Festival, the country’s richest racing event set to hit town later this month.

While the Chinese Year of the Horse might be bidding us farewell, the real horses are on their way in to Singapore.

Those who have lived in places like the UK, Australia and Dubai would know that horse racing events mean much more than just watching horses and jockeys – and perhaps gambling. They are first and foremost glamorous cultural and social events which bring together people from various backgrounds and offer them a chance to immerse in various fringe activities involving fashion and entertainment.

And now this same concept is coming to Singapore thanks to the prestigious China Horse Club who are holding their first overseas China Equine Cultural Festival (CECF) here in the Lion City.

Founded in 2013 by China’s Mr. Teo Ah Khing, the by-invitation only club aims to bring a thoroughly cultural experience to Singapore residents and guest who will be able to join the CECF celebrations held on the 21st and 22nd of February.

The festival promises an array of cultural and entertainment events including a Charity Cocktail Party which will take place at the ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands and where selected works of celebrated artists from China (Li Xiaoling and Mao Wen Biao) and Great Britain (Huw Williams) will be auctioned off for various charitable causes.

CECF will also be a chance for fashionistas (us included) to show off their glamorous side on the race day which is held on Sunday the 22nd of February. The closing ceremony after the day’s final flagship S$3.05million G1 CECF Singapore Cup race – which also happens to be the richest race in Singapore’s 173 years racing history- will conclude with a performance of Singapore’s ‘national treasure, Kit Chan herself.

Horse-lovers and racing enthusiasts will also be delighted to know that top trainers and jockey from around the world will be participating in the races and competing to win the race and the CECF Singapore Cup trophy which was designed by Asprey and took three months to make.

So whether you’re into horses, art or fashion, this is one big cultural event you don’t want to miss.

Now the question is, where to get that fascinator?
