Oops! You’ve forgotten that it is Valentine’s Day this coming Saturday.

Woe betide the person who shows up empty-handed to their date this weekend. Well as luck would have it, you still have two days before V-Day to make a present magically appear.

How? Follow our little cheat plan and thank us later!

Get a bouquet of flowers

And not just any old bunch of posies or predictable roses. Make this year special by putting together a customised bouquet for your beau. Different flowers have multiple meanings, so say what you really feel in this artfully crafted bouquet. Perhaps a bunch of azaleas that symbolise first love, or camellias to express how much they take your breath away. Of course, explain why you chose the flowers and watch your partner melt.

Go old school

Remember the days where we used to make mix-tapes for our crushes? Streaming apps such as Spotify and Deezer have come up with their very own Valentine’s Day playlists to celebrate the occasion and the latter has even launched a brand new Mixtape app. Create your very own playlists filled with “your songs” and send it to your beloved with a heartfelt note about why each song reminds you of them, even better if you can remember if that song was playing during a significant event during your relationship.

Spend a night under the stars

You are probably not going to be able to get a table this late in the game, so improvise a little! Pack your mat, a basket of goodies and head to the nearest quiet spot for a romantic picnic. Visit gourmet supermarkets like Marketplace or Jasons to grab ready-roasts, tossed salads and even pizza  for your picnic basket. Go the extra mile and bring proper cutlery and plates with you a la Diner en Blanc for your impromptu date under the stars. Lay the cutlery out as you would in a fancy restaurant and have your date meet you there a little later for a pleasant surprise.

It wouldn’t hurt to have the flowers and a mixtape on hand too…

Take them ice-skating

Ice-skating in Singapore? Yes, there are several ice-skating rinks dotted around the island for you to have fun. Hold on tight to your love as you both slip and slide across the ice. All that concentration required to maintain your balance will keep your minds off the pressure of Valentine’s Day as well.

Cuddle up on the sofa

With busy schedules that conflict often, sometimes your partner doesn’t need any  more stuff. Some quality time with one another cuddled up on the sofa with some wine and while binge watching Game of Thrones isn’t all that bad. Make the night even more special by scattering rose petals around the room and lighting a few scented candles before they come around. Perhaps you can also whip up an unforgettable meal using our Valentine’s Day recipes.
