Nadia Kishlan: A Singaporean in Marc by Marc Jacobs SS15 campaign

updated the 28 August 2015 à 16:39

Marc Jacobs took it to Instagram to scout 11 fresh faces for their SS15 campaign. Singaporean Nadia Kishlan made the cut and talks to Marie France Asia how this all came to be.

Nadia Kishlan for Marc by Marc Jacobs SS15

Marc By Marc Jacobs designers Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley trusted Instagram to scout 11 models for the brand’s Spring Summer 2015 campaign (read all the details here). Shot by David Sims and styled by Katie Grand, the result is a fashion spread which is an apt representation of the MMJ style: fresh and funky.

What’s in it for us? Well, one of the 11 faces to be chosen was Singapore’s Nadia Kishlan, who is no stranger to the local fashion, design and arts scene. Nadia  was already a locally known it-girl had featured in campaigns for local designers MashUp and most recently Yesah.

But as the MMJ campaign is global – this was Nadia’s first international gig. Marie France Asia caught up with the talented – and may we say unconventional – beauty to see what she has to say.

Marie France Asia: How does it feel being one of the selected 11?
Nadia Kishlan: It feels… weird. But it’s amazing that there are only two people from Asia and I’m one of them. I would say [it’s my biggest achievement] so far since Marc by Marc Jacobs is an international brand.
Marie France Asia:  How does the brand Marc by Marc Jacobs speak to your own personal style?
Nadia Kishlan: Marc Jacobs is not afraid to take risks and I guess that speaks to me because I’m pretty bold in dressing up.
Marie France Asia:  How did the shooting in New York go? How was working with David Sims and his professional team?
Nadia Kishlan: David Sims was really good at directing; he knew what he wanted. I thought I would be really nervous but no, they made me comfortable. The whole team was friendly and accommodating. It was a good experience meeting people all over the world and we’re still in contact.
Marie France Asia:  Why did you join the competition and what did you learn from your experience?

Nadia Kishlan: I came across the ad in an Australian magazine, Oyster. I was really curious, so why not? I didn’t expect too much from it; I was hopeful, but not too hopeful. I guess what I got from it is to never underestimate yourself and never see yourself short no matter what people say. You never know what your potentials are.

Nadia is in her last university year at SIM and is currently occupied with putting together a pop-up boutique festival called Super 0 Openair. The event starts tomorrow at 2 p.m. at 24 Turnhouse Road, visit their Facebook for more details.
