From Furry Fendi backpacks to lace-up heels and an elephant-shaped handbag, here’s everything that caught our eye on the streets of New York.

‘Classic and cool’ just doesn’t seem to cut it anymore –  fashionistas are veering more and more towards the quirky, unconventional and unique as the seasons go by. Outside the Spring 2016 shows in New York last week, those exact sentiments were reflected in streetstyle.

The more common trends included a comeback of the harversack, this time in a variety of plush fabrics like fur and mixed leathers. Other bags were just as statement-making, which were a continuation of the trend at the Fall 2015 shows that saw slogan totes and monogrammed caryalls. This season the next-level mix includes a Lego briefcase, a brand logo that’s uncannily a splitting image of a QR code at first glance, and novelty character shapes like a ‘surprised’ cartoon tote and even a woven elephant that carries your daily essentials.

Footwear came in tamer varieties, with the exception of a brogue-inspired knee-high lace up boot and some fur-trimmed mules. The common head gear of floppy hats weren’t forgotten by some, but in the mood for Fall there were ladies donning ear-warming turbans in bursts of prints and some that even matched their hair colours.

You’ll have to see it to believe it. Scroll through our gallery above and spot your favourites from our round up of the best accessories streetstyled at New York Fashion Week. Next up – London!
