The American brand sure knows a thing or two about style on the streets as they stomped all over the Big Apple for inspiration.

While DKNY has always been proudly grounded in the Big Apple, this time the label looked to the grittier side of New York for inspiration, which meant their Spring/ Summer 2015 collection was a grungy mash up of slick pigtails, chokers, gelled fringes and platform trainers.

Defining the collection as ‘Multicolored, Multicultural, Multitasking’ is no understatement for your eyes will be lured into a kaleidoscopic wonderland filled with a clash of high-octane colours – blazing red, searing whites and powder blues – and bold geometric prints and stripes. The silhouettes were a careful amalgamation of street-inspired fabrics and couture lines where you’d see voluminous A-line dresses, calf-length fluted skirts made from tech mesh, cocoon sleeves and neoprene bombers.

Nonetheless, the true New Yorker’s penchant for black could not be ignored, resulting in a whole series of dark and broody looks, complemented with just a slight tinge of pastel. Stomping down the runway, some of the models were in platform trainers and high-tops made in collaboration with New York sneaker brand, Pony – perfect respite from the towering toe-crunching shoes we know as sexy stilettos.

In any case, judging by the storm athletic wear has taken over the industry with, it comes as no surprise that in 2015, we’ll be seeing a whole lot more sporty meet sophisticated, Upper East Side designs – whether it means an addition of athletic fabrics or cuts, all we know is that we’ve definitely gone fitness crazy.

Now, for the next 6 months or so, take your style cues from DKNY, because if anyone knows what’s working on the streets, it’s this American brand.
