From contemporary to traditional ethnic wear, here are our top picks from the shows at India’s Lakme Fashion Week this season.

Celebrating 15 years of shows, Lakme Fashion Week Spring/ Resort 2015 was again a grand promotion of India’s incredible talent. With over 150 registered buyers – both international and India-based – LFW has consistently been a big window of opportunity for budding designers looking for their big break.

Fashion week runways in India often see a brilliant mix of traditional wear designers and modern, contemporary ones – some though are an amalgamation of the two by taking in little nuances from each. At LFW this season, the same was true. Established designers like Manish Malhotra, Suneet Varma and Tarun Tahiliani unveiled exquisite lenghas and sarees that were decadently bedecked in stones and crystals. On the other hand, younger, emerging designers displayed their creative dexterity by offering looks that were a lot more versatile but yet rooted, in some sense, to the Indian culture – whether it was executed through choice of fabric, embroidery or silhouette.

The 5 day-long affair this year also brought with itself a hoard of Bollywood celebrities gracing front rows or walking down the runways as ‘showstoppers’ – a tradition, so to speak, for fashion weeks in India. Because when it comes to fashion events in Mumbai, Bollywood stars will always be present.

All in all, we’re particularly thrilled to catch LFW, year after year, season after season, because if anything this is one of the few fashion industries that has not completely eradicated ethnic wear or Indian-inspired wear from their leading fashion week and instead encourages tradition in design.

So out of the plethora of shows, we’ll break it down for you in this bite-sized digest of those designers that caught our attention and left indelible marks. Trust us, you’ll be floored.
