Fashionably 4D: Ralph Lauren Spring 2015 collection

Instead of a traditional runway, Ralph Lauren went with a technologically driven 4D show in New York’s Central Park to present his Spring 2015 collection.

To promote the grand opening of Ralph Lauren’s polo flagship store on fifth avenue in New York City, the designer showcased an intriguing fashion event. He did not want to introduce his new women’s Spring 2015 collection through the usual catwalk show that we are all familiar with. Instead, he opted for a runway design that has never been seen before until now, and of course, technology was an integral part of the show.

The American brand displayed a 4D virtual fashion show onto a 60-foot tall and 150-foot wide water screen in Central Park. Thanks to the combination of the live-action movement of real models and visualizations of New York streets, the selected guests were able to witness a 4D projection of models walking on water along the streets.

As Ralph Lauren said, “I really wanted to do something big for the new polo women’s brand — something set in the city — something that felt modern. We returned to central park, a place I love, and captured the spirit of polo with a truly innovative mix of fashion and technology”.

Indeed, it was a spectacular event of cinematic proportions, but at this point you may, like us, still harbour some questions about the new collection. Since most of the effort was put into the 4D presentation rather than the details, fabrics, or colors of the collection, all that we can say now is the clothes carried a bohemian, chic and urban style.
