Prints, chic outerwear and Disney villains were all present on the catwalk for the second day of SFW.

Eclectic is the word to describe the second day of womenswear shows at Seoul Fashion Week F/W2014.

While fashion and entertainment joined forces as K-pop boy band So Real took the runway at ENZUVAN’s show to perform one of their hits – fashion was still the main focus as evident by these shows which demonstrated the wide spectrum that Korean fashion caters for. From chic to quirky, here are the shows which stood out on the second day of Seoul Fashion Week F/W2014.

LIE

Being the son of one of Korea’s most prominent designers Lie Sang Bong, designer Lee Chung Chung must have been under tremendous pressure to present his womenswear collection for the first time at Seoul Fashion Week this year. But the young designer rose up to the challenge with a well-balanced, comprehensive collection which caters for young and fashionable crowd.

The star item which appeared repeatedly was a flared midi leather trousers which we reckon is just what we need to go with our chunky sweaters next winter. Other standout pieces were those with sheer front and horizontal leather or faux fur panels which formed a fresh winter-y take on the SS14 sheer paneling trend. The colour palette was mainly black, white and grey with splashes of orange from time to time but there was definitely enough variety of styles and cuts to please everyone. All in all, it was an easy-to-wear and casual chic collection with a cool avant-garde edge.

Singapore Designers Showcase

5 Singaporean emerging designers were chosen to represent the rising fashion talent from the little red dot – namely DZOJCHEN, Pauline.Ning, Revasseur, A.W.O.L and accessories label Smalldive.

The designers showed a whole spectrum of aesthetics starting with the monochrome and understated (DZOJCHEN and Pauline.Ning) and ending with the flamboyant Disney villains-inspired collection at Revasseur and oversized hats with neon houndstooth checks at A.W.O.L.

We especially loved Pauline.Ning’s beautifully draped pieces and revasseur’s tongue-in-cheek take on our childhood’s ‘evil’ characters portrayed through slogan t-shirts and separates which although looked too theatrical on the catwalk, could actually be wearable on their own.

ARCHE

The Marie Antoinette-inspired ‘The Rose of Versailles’ collection had everything a girl would want in her wardrobe. The show started with sweet baby pink ensembles and gradually got darker with a lot of interesting prints and embellishments in between. No wonder K-pop girl band Tiara were snapping away from their front row seats as the models sashayed down the runway in the quirky and fun ensembles.

DEMOO PARKCHOONMOO

One of South Korea’s top designers Demi Park has put together a mature and chic collection for her 25 year anniversary in the industry. As expected from her, the clothes were an epitome of elegance and luxury with a twist in ‘cubism-inspired’ geometric cuts that folded and draped all in the right places. We loved the use of exaggerated jersey turtle necks and pronounced seams on the outside of the coats which gave an extra volume to achieve the angular silhouettes to perfection. The use of fabric was equally masterful with materials ranging from lamb leather, alpaca, organic cotton and cashmere fused felts which were mixed to create a calculated contrast. Definitely one of the best collections we’ve seen on the day.
