How to get rid of bloating?

To calm the pain and discomfort associated with bloating, try alternative medicines alongside an appropriate diet.

WHERE DOES BLOATING COME FROM?

A food intolerance, a disturbance of the intestinal flora or an exaggerated fermentation in the colon can all lead to unexpected bloating. It is the accumulation of digestive gas or abdominal distension that causes pain and discomfort.

THE PHYTOTHERAPY PRESCRIPTION

“The top-grade treatment is the mixture of fresh plant extracts of artichoke-dandelion-lemon balm with equal doses: drink 1 to 2 teaspoons of the mixture diluted in some water before eating”, recommends the Doctor-Herbalist, Eric Lorrain. To limit the fermentation, think of rebalancing the digestive flora by taking a probiotic (Lactibiane reference, take half an hour before dinner). As for the activated charcoal (Carbolevure, Elusane Charbon), it absorbs the gas as a sponge and prevents annoying flatulence.

“When bloating appears at the beginning of the meals or at the end of the day, take Lycopodium 5CH (4 times a day in case of repeated disorders). And in case of hepatic disorders and constipation, take Kalium carbonicum 5CH (3 times a day)”, recommends Albert-Claude Quemoun, Pharmacist and Homeopath.

Limit your consumption of celery and leeks, which are rich in irritating fibres, and cauliflower, turnip and onions, which contain sulphur compound generators of gas”, indicates the Dietician Thérèse Ellul-Ferrari. Recurring bloating can also result from bad digestion of dairy products. Favour cooked cheeses that contain less lactose.

TIP

Use cumin, especially when cooking beans and lentils, as it facilitates their digestion.
