The good news is that the liver is a forgiving organ. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle for two to three weeks after the holiday season and it will be as good as new and fully functional (except in the case of serious illnesses, such as cirrhosis or hepatitis). Contrary to popular belief, it’s pointless to fast or to ingest only liquids. A varied and well-balanced diet is much more effective to repair the liver without being covered with pimples or suffering migraine because of all the toxins being brutally expelled from the body.

THE DETOX diet

Breakfast

– 2 to 3 slices of biological sourdough sandwiches spread with almonds puree (on sale in biological food stores).

Around 10 a.m.

– Seasonal fresh fruit to chew slowly.

Lunch

– A salad of raw vegetables sprayed with olive oil or 1st cold pressing colza oil + cider vinegar + aromatic herbs.

– Cooked green vegetables and/or semi-complete organic cereal (rice, pastas, quinoa, millet, buckwheat), which are less irritating to the digestive system than complete ones.

– 2 boiled eggs, some fish or poultry that is steamed or poached.

Snack

– Seasonal fresh fruit or a bunch of dried fruits (almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts)

Dinner

Around 8 p.m.

– Carrot and raw beet juice

– Cooked green vegetables (or in a thick soup version) or 1 or 2 steamed potatoes.

– Proteins: one or two eggs, some meat (preferably white) or fish.

Once or twice a week, opt for a mono diet (eating only one type of food) for one meal per day to relieve the work of the liver. A thick vegetable soup or a plate of brown rice, for example. In parallel, reduce your intake of alcohol, coffee and tea (no more than two cups a day).

NATURAL AIDS

– Herbal tea prepared by a herbalist with equal shares of blackcurrant, horsetail, mallow and rosemary (fill a thermos bottle and drink all day long, without sugar or honey).

– A small cure of phytotherapy for two to three weeks can help protect the liver; for example; desmodium, milk thistle or chrysantellum americanum. Ask your pharmacist for advice to find the best adapted plants and good posology.

– Practice regularly activities that help to stay Zen: yoga, relaxation, meditation.

– Place a hot-water bottle on the liver (under the breast on the right side) or have hot foot baths. The liver is the hottest organ of the body, the blood enters it in 37°C and go out at 40 / 41°C.

– In case of anger or of violent contrariety, “do not digest”; release it by playing sports or expressing your feelings in writing.
