Intuition: How does it work?
mis à jour le 14 July 2015 à 18:34I was sure about it, I knew it, I should have listened to myself… All of us say that to ourselves, at least once in our life. Authors and psychoanalysts Djohar Si Ahmed and Gérald Leroy-Terquem explain to us how to better understand, follow and develop our intuitive intelligence.
What is intuition?
It is a very often inhibited faculty that enables us to perceive information given to us, with no logical explanations. The information can either be imposed on our consciousness, or translated by apparently irrational acts that will be proved relevant afterwards. Intuition can be defined as a telepathic perception based on "feelings", appearing in the conscience or being translated by actions.
Is it an innate faculty?
It is a faculty that we all have, but which is generally very inhibited. The telepathic function (on which intuition is based) can be very developed in young children. In fact, it is an integral part of the communication mode with their acquaintances and in particular with their mother. When language, and thus socialization, develops, this function inhibits gradually without disappearing. It goes into the background of our mental functioning, but is always here, and can re-appear in big emotional states: bereavements, or a loving state for example. Some brakes can block its development, in particular when you are withdrawn.
Does feminine intuition really exist?
According to the classic plans, feminine intuition is about sensitivity, susceptibility, opening to others, compassion, while the male intuition is more about struggling, conquest, self-assertion, and so on... According to these schemes, women are supposed to be more intuitive than men. And it is generally true. However, there are numerous non-intuitive women and numerous men who are highly intuitive (artists or creators especially). Intuition integrates components of our functioning that relate at the same time to our feminine part and to our male part (we all possess both parts whatever our real sex). So it reflects our degree of maturation (or evolution), meaning the quality of integration of our feminine component and our male component.
How can we develop our intuition?
Essentially, by exploring our feelings, often on the verge of consciousness. It is thus within ourselves, in the relation to ourselves, that we can discover them, give them the place that they are worth. The question is to know how to open this relation to ourselves as we often have a closed spirit, especially with our own feelings. Going out or learning to go out of this established closed spirit is a prerequisite completely necessary for the dis-inhibition of our intuitive faculties. Concretely, exercises can facilitate this: relaxation, meditation, disconnection with the outside world, respiration… One of the simplest exercises consists in asking ourselves the two following questions in front of a ringing telephone: whom was I thinking about and who can it be? The answer to these two questions should be duly reported in our intuition notebook. It's sort of a record book that could help us in our inner quest. It is possible to have telepathic or premonitory flashes, and in diverse ways (intuitions and false intuitions or projections) it can be very important to have a written track.
Can we recognize real intuition from a false intuition?
No, there is no way to distinguish a real intuition from a false one. On the other hand, becoming aware, a posteriori of our false intuitions, which are in general projections, enables us to be aware of the unconscious programs that lead our inner world. From this point of view false intuitions, just like dreams, slips of the tongue or the subconsciously deliberate mistakes, get us on the track of our unconsciousness and can be used for therapy.
