There’s a new gem in Bangkok’s skyline.

Needless to say, New York City’s Waldorf Astoria is possibly one of the world’s most iconic hotels.

Having hosted every US president and Hollywood luminaries like Frank Sinatra, John Lennon, Sophia Loren and Elizabeth Taylor, the historic hotel exudes an old-school glamour and commands unmistakable heritage. You might’ve also heard of the famed True Waldorf Service, its legendary concierge service that quite literally attends to every possible whim and fancy.

This year, the brand has announced that will be making its foray into Southeast Asia. Yes, you read that right – Southeast Asia will be home to its very first Waldorf Astoria hotel. Opening later in the year in Bangkok’s bustling Ratchaprasong intersection, the Waldorf Astoria Bangkok promises to every inch of the quintessential Waldorf brand.

Designed by award-winning architect Andre Fu (whose portfolio include the new and architecturally impressive Andaz Singapore), the sculptural building resembles a magnolia flower springing from the ground – unmistakable design on Bangkok’s skyline.

Each of its 171 guest rooms and suites, which start at 50 square metres, are more spacious than the average hotel room size and designed to let guests feel at home, with homey touches like a walk-in closet.

Equally synonymous to the Waldorf branding are its dining options. True to the Waldorf brand is how cuisine is also at the core of its philosophy. Acclaimed chef Rungthiwa Chummongkhon will bring her Michelin-starred expertise to head its restaurant the Front Room, which will present an elegant brand of ‘new Nordic’ and Thai flavours in a relaxed setting.

Slated to open in the third quarter of 2018, the Waldorf Astoria Bangkok will be its very first Southeast Asian venture, joining the ranks of its other editions in Asian cities like Beijing, Chengdu and Shanghai.

Whether it will command that old-world glamour of its historic predecessors still remains to be unseen; however, it’s certainly primed to be one of the most highly-anticipated luxury hotel openings in the region.
