Singaporeans are found to travel the most out of all the other Asia Pacific countries. But what for exactly?

When it comes to travel, Singaporeans make up one of the biggest contributors in the world. According to a survey conducted by British Airways with 1,000 Singaporeans across specific Asia Pacific countries, Singaporeans are found to travel at least 9% more than our Japanese, Chinese and Indian friends. This is an interesting discovery, and an important one, as it reveals that Singaporeans love to explore new destinations all over the world.

In addition, shopping covers a huge part of the itinerary for many Singaporean travellers, closely followed by visits to historical landmarks when abroad. The number one must-visit shopping destination in London, according to nearly half of respondents, is the highly-renowned food haven Borough Market, which simultaneously reflects the rich history of the area and serves up some of the freshest and most varied foodstuffs in the city. Coming close in the rankings are designer brand outlets, Oxford Street and Portobello Market.

It seems as if Singaporeans are also highly motivated to travel due to pop culture influences, such as the desire to visit the United Kingdom inspired by the extremely popular Harry Potter movie series. This finding reflected the thoughts of around 39% of respondents who participated in the survey. The top European destinations of choice also happen to be cities with rich historical culture and shopping avenues, for example Paris, Venice and London, which are all incredibly vibrant and unique.

These results show how Singaporeans are extremely avid travellers, and their travel habits help airlines and travel companies work to better the overseas experience for us each and every year. Take a look at some intriguing photos of various popular tourist sites recommended by fellow Singaporeans above, in our gallery.
