It’s time to toss your favourite red lipstick to the side for a bit and say hello to these equally mesmerising brown lippies.

If there’s one lipstick shade which has made its mark this year, it has got to be the brown lipstick. When we think of brown, we can’t help but imagine a default chocolate-like colour. However, this year, we’ve seen a variety of shades, from mauve browns to berry browns and we can’t be more pleased.

To determine which brown lipstick would work for you, it’s best to determine your skin tone before deciding on a shade.

LIGHT SKIN TONE

Many ladies with lighter skin tones tend to go for browns which are too light or closer to their natural skin tone. This runs the risk of them appearing too washed out. To avoid looking pale, opt for a brown lipstick with red or orange undertones as this would stand out against the complexion.

MEDIUM SKIN TONE

It is often said that brown lipstick suits medium skin tones the best. While that has yet to be proven, we do agree that ladies in this category do have many more options. The best brown lipsticks would have cooler undertones. If you have a slightly more yellow undertone, opt for a dark brown. Unlike ladies with a fairer skin tones, brown lipsticks with red undertones are a big no-no for medium skin toned beauties.

DARK SKIN TONE

Ladies with a darker skin tone should embrace their undertones and opt for nude browns. This would not only bring out the colour of their eyes but will be perfect to add a contrast against their beautiful skin tone.

Now time to head on over to the gallery up top for a round up of brown lippies that’ll suit your skin tone. The red needs to rest after all.
