Urban Ventures X Street Party

Why: Welcome to the first carbon-neutral street activation in Singapore! Urban Ventures is back--bigger and better this year! Enjoy their underground market, yoga and salsa on the streets, free manicures, and street performances by local artists such as China Jam Reunion and Subhas! Street food will also be offered by vendors such as Brotzeit Singapore and HVRST, which will be offering their famous corn fritters and cassava chips.

SPROUT, A Farm-to-People Festival

Why: Suntec Singapore will debut its first farm-to-people festival this weekend! SPROUT will shed a light on sustainable agriculture, urban farming, and the consumption of healthy food with over 50 diverse exhibitors. The event will host a great lineup of activities such as Sprout & BUY, Sprout & EAT, Sprout & COOK, Sprout & GROW, Sprout & PLAY and Sprout & LEARN, perfect for those who love to cook or simply want to kick-start their journey to preparing healthy meals at home. Out in Singapore Exhibition

Why: A sister project of “Out in Japan”, Out In Singapore is a project spearheaded by internationally renowned fashion photographer and film director Leslie Kee. He will be displaying new portraits of 150 LGBTQ individuals at The Projector to humanize the queer community in Singapore. Check out the online version of his exhibit here.

The Little Prince: Behind the Story

Loof’s Supper Club Series

Why: Our favorite “Looftop” bar will be taking things up a notch with exclusive by-invite-only Supper Club collaborations featuring Singapore’s most prominent chefs and mixologists. Kicking off the series is Chef Han Li Guang of Neo-Sin from the Michelin-starred restaurant, Labyrinth. Dig into his rendition of “Tze Char” inspired bar bites such as Salted Egg Yolk Prawn Balls with a sweet corn filling, and an ultra-crispy Sam Lor Mee Hoon Cracker with chilli dipping sauce!

Why: Head on over to the Sullivan+Strumpf gallery to enjoy Irfan Hendrian’s exhibition SANS☒, which explores the expansive potential of non-representational aesthetics and thinking strategies. Motionless Boundary at Element Art Space (Gillman Barracks)

Why: From this weekend onwards, Element Art Space will be exhibiting 'Motionless Boundary', a collection of 12 artists from Singapore and Taiwan who have engaged with traditional approaches to picture-making and image-construction by challenging and reframing philosophical questions surrounding notions of originality, subjectivity, and spiritual transcendence.

The Singapore Theatre Festival 2018

Why: Presented by W!LD RICE, the Singapore Theatre Festival is an event dedicated to celebrating contemporary Singaporean theatre through the development and presentation of new and original local writing. Head on over to watch 'Press Gang', which discusses journalism and the role of media within Singapore, and 'When The Cold Wind Blows', a tearjerker about Singapore’s military service.

The Lion King Musical

We’ve made it through the first week of July, and we have quite an extensive roundup of rewarding activities you can engage in this week!

This weekend, SPROUT, Singapore’s first ever farm-to-people festival, will be happening in Suntec. Touted as the largest farmers’ market yet in the city, it’s the perfect opportunity to learn how you can start embracing a more sustainable approach to your food and cooking. Or for something a lot more upbeat, head on over to Temple Street for Urban Ventures’ annual explosive street party featuring Singaporean artists, local food vendors, and underground markets.

For a more meaningful way to spend the weekend, check out the “Out in Singapore” photo exhibition happening at The Projector ahead of Pink Dot 2018. This exhibition will be featuring beautiful portraits of the Singaporean LGBTQ community in order to raise awareness of the importance of acceptance to the Singaporean public. There’s also something for the culture vultures: make a date at The Singaporean Theatre Festival and the SANS☒ and Motionless Boundary art exhibits hosted by Gillman Barracks.
