Incorporate red into your Chinese New Year wardrobe without being overwhelmed by the bold colour. Check out our top 20 adornments for your look.

While Hollywood associates the red in red-carpet events with luxury and fame, the Chinese believe it is a colour of wealth, prosperity and good fortune. And in celebration of Chinese New Year, the whole town is painted in the blazing colour: lanterns, cheongsams, wall decorations, etc.

While the crimson shade is the go-to shade for someone who wants to stand out, the colour might be overwhelming for some. But since Lunar New Year is thematic with the lively hue, let’s not break tradition by skipping the colour entirely. You don’t need to be decked in head-to-toe florid red, just add a splash of colour with accessories instead.

It might be a Ferrari-red belt with a tigress buckle from MDS, a comfy Topshop cape to drape on top of your outfit, a pair of distinct tassel earrings or even as simple as painting your nails red. Or spend a little on a timeless Valentino studded iPhone case and a great lipstick that matches your skin tone – you will always need a classic red lipstick after all.
