This winter, be prepared to sweat in style for fashion heavyweights like Karl Lagerfeld and Alexander Wang have all made their tribute to the noble marriage of sports and fashion.

When sneakers were first given the green light to set foot on a haute couture runway, we knew a revolutionary phase for the fashion industry was brewing, and the series of collaborations released thereafter further cemented our suspicions.

The fashion world has been ablaze with challenging stereotypes of the feminine and dainty women, and is now thoroughly bent on marrying sports with fashion. Seems like designers now have a thing for empowering women, and bringing out the fighter spirit in us all – Karl Lagerfeld being the greatest ambassador of this revolution.

The Kaiser first orchestrated a sports themed campaign for Chanel’s fall winter 2014 collection with Cara Delevinge and Binx Walton that featured boxing rings, trousers and jogging-wear alongside iconic tweed tailoring and quilted everything.  It wasn’t long before he embarked on the second phase of his sports luxe revolution as he launched a line of punching bags and boxing gloves as part of Louis Vuitton’s ‘Celebrate Monogram’ campaign.

Alexander Wang then followed suit with his latest collaboration with H&M that was as sporty as any collection could possibly get what with scuba suits, basketball shorts and boxing gear and the likes. Even Beyoncé got the memo as she announced an active wear collaboration with Topshop just yesterday.

With fitness and athleticism at the forefront of the fashion industry and working out being more glamorous than ever, we couldn’t be more thrilled with the new direction that fashion is undertaking and to embrace a stronger, fiercer and powerful women.
