Local Tastes: Hotel Jen introduces lip-smacking “Hor Jiak!” foods to its buffets
If you love creative renditions of local favourites, you’ll want to “Leave Boring Behind” with Hotel Jen Orchardgateway and Hotel Jen Tanglin.
Singaporeans, it’s time to give your taste buds a real treat. As part of their “Leave Boring Behind” initiative, the two Hotel Jen properties on our sunny little island will be introducing five spectacular dishes with creative twists that feature culinary influences from Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines. If you’ve ever wondered what a “Chilli Crab Fondue” would look like (hint: they serve the saucy goodness in a snazzy bread bowl), or if you like the sound of some “Laksa Lemak Singapura” (fried rice infused with fragrant laksa broth), you’ll be in for a treat.
If you’ve got a sweet tooth, you’ll probably enjoy the “Ginataang Turon”, inspired by two popular Filipino desserts: Ginataang halo-halo and turon. Hotel Jen’s rendition is sure to blow you away with its hybrid of the two sweet treats, all bundled together in a spring roll wrapper and deep-fried to a crisp.
The novelty of the “Laksa Johor Slider” is sure to impress and perhaps even amuse some, with its crisp spaghetti “buns” that make for a pretty unique Insta-worthy snapshot. And of course, foodies will no doubt love the “Smoked Pulled Lamb Pongteh” for the ultimate savoury indulgence.
These curious yet creative hor jiak (“tasty” in Hokkien) masterpieces will be available at Hotel Jen Orchardgateway’s Makan@Jen restaurant and Hotel Jen Tanglin’s J65 restaurant from 14 November to 11 December this year during the lunch and dinner buffets. Head up to the gallery to take a closer look at these impressive dishes.
