The unassuming salted egg has deep roots in Chinese culture. These preserved duck eggs were often brined or packed in salted charcoal to get its signature look and taste. Traditionally, these eggs were used in mooncakes, glutinous rice dumplings and accompanied plain congee for breakfast.
