Tip: wear and reapply your sunscreen daily – yes, even in the office.

If you thought the sun was the only thing that causes UV radiation and wrinkles, think again. Because little did you know, you have been facing a UV aging bomb all this time: your office computer screen.

‘Screen face’ is a term we call professionals who sit in front of the computer for long hours, who tend to squint, frown, or remain in one position for a long period of time. This is results in accelerated fine lines, wrinkles, frown lines, turkey neck, deep wrinkles, and jowls – all the signs of premature aging we want to prevent.

The reason for the computer screen or any electronic devices being so detrimental to our skin is because they emit something called HEV (high-energy visible light) aka blue light. Although the amount of blue light devices emit is only a fraction of that emitted by the sun, the amount of time we spend using these devices and the proximity of these screens to our faces is concerning.

The problems it causes:

  1. Premature aging
  2. Worsens skin pigmentation such as Melasma
  3. UV radiation
  4. Damage to the retina

A few ways to protect your skin:

  1. Use high SPF sunscreens
  2. Reapply your sunscreen every 2 hours
  3. Purchase a blue light screen protector
  4. Take short breaks away from any devices

Reapplying sunscreens might sound gross if you’re wearing foundation. Fret not – you can always opt for spray-on sunscreens, which are quick and easy to apply and spares you from all the cakey-ness. Check out our gallery for a few high SPF liquid and spray-on sunscreens!
