Finally lip liners are trendy once more, and here is why you shouldn’t leave them out of your makeup bag ever again.

The naughty 90s made lip liners look so bad some people still have a phobia of this handy little pencil. Considering just how darn useful they are, we’re very pleased that lip liners are now the comeback kid of the beauty world.

The versatile lip liner is also the key to adding definition to your lips and getting the coveted cupid’s bow. For an Angelina Jolie-esque pout, line outside the natural line of your lips. Try smiling slightly to get extra mileage out of your bottom lip and avoid using a too-sharp pencil.

Don’t just stop at lining the perimeters, colouring your lips in is key to prolonging the wear of your lipstick or gloss. Just like a foundation primer, liners give something your lip product can grip onto, preventing bleeding or feathering, making bold lips crisp and sharp.

While some may prefer to match the colour of their liners to their lipsticks, you can easily get away with a nude pencil even under bold colours. Many brands have even released invisible liners that don’t contain any pigment. That way you won’t need to purchase multiple lip pencils.

However, if you prefer the extra punch that coloured liners give then get extra use out of them by wearing them alone. After all, liners are essentially a very concentrated matte lipstick, perfect for showboats that love a bold colour. Just don’t forget to prep your lips with a balm first!
