Singapore has groomed many local talents, that we are sure of now. Soulful melodies, music producers and mainstream pop music – we’ve got it all. Next up on our local talent series is the very popular and charming Taufik Batisah, whom we all have grown to love as our very first Singapore Idol. His first English album titled Blessings, released in 2005, broke records to become the best-selling local English album in the Singapore music industry.

Although he sang mostly English songs during the competition, he chose to steer towards his Malay roots post-Idol and now mainly produces Malay songs which are extremely well-received by the Malay community, sweeping the Malay radio charts year after year. He has won many awards for being a role model to the younger community as well, such as Winner of Kid’s Choice Wannabe Award (Singapore) at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards.

In 2012, Taufik Batisah even represented Singapore at the first ABU TV Song Festival in Seoul, performing his multi-award winning original Usah Lepaskan for the world to hear. His recent single #AwakKatMane (Where Are You) is a playful, upbeat piece that teases the possessive girlfriend who constantly asks her boyfriend where he is, and a refreshing change from Taufik’s usual acoustic style. Ironically, it’s a very popular song for Malay weddings!

Recently married to his beautiful wife last year, he seems to be very contented with his life right now. Even though he is largely successful in the Singapore music scene, Taufik Batisah continues to be a very filial and humble man, always thanking God and his family for his happiness. It’s no wonder he’s so popular with people of all ages!
