We round up the best places on the island to satisfy your shellfish craving.

The oyster may hold one of the world’s most coveted gems, but to foodies, the real precious jewel is the oyster meat itself. Oysters are an acquired taste for sure. Those who enjoy knocking back a dozen from time to time know that eating an oyster is like getting a concentrated shot of the ocean itself.

This briny oceanic delight has long been a subject of fascination. Authors Lewis Caroll and William Shakespeare have mentioned oysters fondly in their works, with Shakespeare coining the famous phrase “the world is your oyster”.

Possibly the most famous figure associated with oysters is Giacomo Casanova. Many attribute the 18th century lover’s famous libido to his penchant for oysters. Casanova was said to have consumed over 50 oysters for breakfast alone.

While we can’t attest to the aphrodisiac prowess of oysters, we can vouch for their deliciousness. We love them so much we’ve compiled a list of the top places to get the freshest and juiciest oysters. Check out the gallery for a full listing.
