A boring relationship, poor libido, difficulties in loving and being loved… Love dissatisfaction can make us gain weight. Here is the advice of author and doctor Stéphane Clerget.

Emotional kilos are acquired kilos, gain or loss of weight caused by sentimental events, recent or buried more deeply inside us, that sometimes go back to our past affairs, to our childhood or to our adolescence.

1) FIND THE ORIGIN OF your WEIGHT GAIN

Why do you get fat? It is the only real question to ask yourself. The reasons are very often unconscious. Your dream is to be slim, but a part of you doesn’t want it, without you really knowing it. It is this part that you have to discover. Is it to fill an emotional space? To cover up a pain? To run away from any sexuality? You have to unmask the situations that make you eat more than usual or that make you eat junk food. When we eat fat or sweet foods in an excessive way, it shows low self-respect. We have, for example, the feeling of not being loved anymore. We eat our bad-being that is inside of ourselves. It is also essential to identify the periods when we get fat while we do not modify our food habits. I saw some patients obviously become slimmer once they had been released from their unconscious emotional obstacles.

2) ASSESS YOUR emotional SITUATION

Get a break from the frenzy of your daily life. Weight gain can be a warning signal that shows us that something is wrong with our relationship or, more widely, in our emotional life. What doesn’t satisfy us? It is sometimes micro-events within our relationship, the frustrations or the disappointments, the small sentence that we don’t digest… You have to find the repressed events and address them.

3) TRY A DIET… FOR TWO!

I am not in favour of diets in general, but I realise that when done for two they work pretty well. It is a couple’s project; something you can do together and it’s more rewarding than doing it alone. Weight gain is not an obvious subject to approach in a couple, then if both refocus themselves, it will be easier.

4) RE-INVOLVE YOURSELF IN YOUR RELATIONSHIP

It is important to boost the dynamics of the relationship. Holidays are a good barometer: if you spend more time with your lover and if you lose weight, it is a good sign. You simply have to get more time to be and do things together all year round, to manage more time together, to get out of the sexual routine…

5) TAKE YOUR TIME

At the cinema as in life, men and women enjoy it when everything goes very fast, as if it enables them to get rid of time… Savouring, taking your time, is the best way to slim down, and…to reach orgasm! Have you heard about slow sex?
