Holiday Photos: “I often ask others to take a picture of me.”

Agathe likes asking others to photograph her. This was decoded by the psychotherapist Christine Ulivucci.

AGATHE, 20, STUDENT.

“I take many photos of myself, especially on holidays. I particularly like portraits, in which I make a lot of faces! The background is also important: a beautiful castle, sun, greenery… I often ask others to photograph me, but I also put myself in selfies. I use apps such as Snapchat and Instagram, to share my photos. I also change the image of my Facebook profile twice a month.”

THE expert’s OPINION –  ‘AN IDENTITY QUEST FOR YOUNG PEOPLE’

“The selfies madness reflects on a quest of identity, especially among young people. Self-image is then in full elaboration and photos act as a mirror. We look for ourselves, we have fun in a playful way with our image, we refine it. So we like to be some distance away from the fixed image presented by our parents. It is thus necessary to see that this does not become compulsive. Agathe shares her photos a lot, testifies her need to exist in a collective group, to re-assure herself of her identity and to communicate it by means of images. She sends a little of herself to her friends by selecting photos which reflect something positive. As she says, the background is important. It is chosen as support to beautify the picture.”
