One of Singapore’s most influential designer, Thomas Wee, unveiled a monochrome collection filled with oriental sensibilities.

Throughout his 40 year-old career in fashion, Thomas Wee consistently proved himself as one of the most prominent designers in Singapore. He continues to impress us with his impeccable workmanship and premium quality designs.

Staying true to his roots, the designer presented his Spring Summer 2015 collection with the theme of “Asia: Past, Present and Future” that was live-streamed at Digital Fashion Week 2014. He skillfully brought elements of Asia, through traditional costumes from Japan, Korea, China, and Southeast Asia, into the silhouettes of white silk organza tops. Thomas Wee reconstructed the tops into interestingly designed shapes and matched them with black bottoms that carried modern sensibilities by way of construction – such as wide leg pants, A-line skirts and bloomer shorts. This collection was aimed at modern and sophisticated women as Wee believed that women have begun to discover their roots. Moreover, Wee also added some elements of surprise to his collection: Japanese Obi belts, skirts featured ankle ties, circular cut details at the back of the white wraps, and A-line skirts with a pleated back. Rebekah Roy, London’s top fashion stylist, shared that she particularly loved the skirt with the pleats when we interviewed her after the show ended.

It’s not a surprise that most of us loved the final piece of the collection that was modeled by Jourdan Miller, the winner of America’s Next Top Model cycle 20. This piece was also one of Thomas’ most favorite pieces. It was a sheer pantsuit with oriental details on its belt. We were in full agreement with Jourdan that we similarly yearned to own this piece in our wardrobe.
