As one of Singapore’s favoured local labels, Pauline Ning displayed sheer design wit in her collection of raw and refined silhouettes.

As an admirer of precision and balance in detail, this season Pauline Ning truly raised conventional signature basics – classic shirt and cocktail dress – to a new level by juxtaposing white Habutai silks over neon orange and pink mini dresses, and in other cases, combining customized sportswear bras with sequin-clad evening sheaths. But perhaps, what was most remarkable about seeing the Spring Summer 2015 Wounded Rhymes collection this year, was how details in the construction of a garment and fabrics – knit mesh, midnight blue and charcoal embroidered pieces, organza, and silk with a gloss finish – gracefully deformed the female figure while remained overtly subtle and détracté. The art of mixing asymmetrical geometric shapes and craftsmanship as seen on shirts, tops and on the back of calf-length A-line dresses, not only spoke volumes of Pauline’s mastery of understated complex design but also created a parallel in styles traditionally associated with Japanese high-street fashion contemporaries.

Thus, making it fitting that her collections should be sold internationally alongside the likes of Comme des Garçons, amongst others.
